Schedule a Consultation →Required Forms and Fees
You will need: completed Form N-400 (Application for Naturalization), the current filing fee ($760 as of 2025, or $640 for military), and two passport-style photos (only required if filing by mail). Always check the USCIS website for the current fee before filing.
Proof of Permanent Residence
Submit a copy (front and back) of your Permanent Resident Card (Green Card). If your card is expired or about to expire, you should renew it via Form I-90 before or alongside your N-400. Include copies of all Green Cards you have held.
Identity Documents
Include: copies of all passports (current and expired), your state-issued ID or driver's license, and any other government-issued photo ID.
Travel History
You must account for all trips outside the U.S. during the statutory period. Include a list of all trips, dates of departure and return, countries visited, and purpose. Supporting documentation (passport stamps, airline records) may be requested.
Marital History Documents
If married: marriage certificate (and English translation if applicable). If divorced: divorce decree for all prior marriages. If widowed: death certificate of former spouse. If you are applying under the 3-year rule as a spouse of a U.S. citizen, you also need: evidence of joint life (joint bank statements, lease/mortgage, photos, joint insurance).
Tax Returns
Include copies of your federal income tax returns for the past 5 years (or 3 years if applying under the spousal path). If you were not required to file, include a statement explaining why.
Criminal or Immigration History
If you have any arrests, criminal charges, or prior immigration court proceedings, include certified court dispositions for each incident. Failure to disclose can result in denial and possible removal proceedings.
Selective Service Registration
Male applicants who were required to register with Selective Service (ages 18-26) must provide proof of registration or an explanation if they failed to register.

Do I need certified copies?
USCIS generally accepts clear photocopies. However, if you are asked to bring originals to your interview, you must produce them. For documents in a foreign language, you need a certified English translation.
What if I filed taxes jointly with my spouse?
Joint tax returns are fine. Include the full return or a transcript from the IRS.
Can I use IRS transcripts instead of full returns?
Yes. IRS tax transcripts are accepted and sometimes easier to obtain than full returns, especially for older years.
What if I never filed taxes?
If you were legally required to file and did not, USCIS may question your good moral character. Consider consulting a tax professional and filing any missing returns before your interview.
